Dear Second Grade Families,

NO SCHOOL MONDAY 01/21/18- Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Wow!! Can you believe we are half-way through our 2nd grade year? The time has flown by! We had a fun end to our second quarter with Market Day! Please check your child’s report card on your mybackpack account.

This week in Language Arts students will be reading, writing, listening and speaking about our essential question, “How can creative thinking solve a problem?” Students will practice reading and writing their compound spelling words. They will also practice summarizing what they read, and learn how to compare and contrast two different stories. Students will get to write a poem. We will focus on writing past, present, and future tense verbs.

We are also beginning a new Math unit on time and money. This week students will practicing solving real-world problems with coins and dollar bills.

In Science students will learn how people use Earth’s many resources. We will begin by exploring ways people use rocks.

In Social Studies students will learn about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

We look forward to the week! Please remember  to put your child’s name on EVERY piece of outer wear, lunch boxes, and water bottles so we can get it back to them at the end of the day.
